Its been awhile since I've created a DVD with the intention of playing it on the TV, and I use Roxio 8. There could be a couple of problems here. One is that if you have an older DVD player it may not be capable of playing a slide show. Is it a PSD slide show, or did you create the slide show with Roxio?

The other is that you may need to create a menu similar to the one you have to go through to get a regular movie DVD to play, where you click play on the menu and that starts the show. Only Roxio won't get that fancy for you. :crying: There's a little more to it than just a straight copy to DVD, unfortunately.

Hi Gene:
Thank you for replying my friend. The purpose of the DVD was for image storage as backup. When i open the program it took me to a slide show section so been new to this I say let me try it. But i really don't need a slide show. All i want is to when ever I get new pictures in the PC backthem up in Ext. HD and DVD's.

The PC is brand new so it brought in a new DVD writer and player. So I asume the DVD player is new.
I was told that to burn DVD's is similar to burning CD's data, data disc, add data then drag and drop file or folder. Is that correct?

If all you want is to back-up your images. Don Diego a drag and drop will work. You don't need a slideshow. Or copy to that drive will work also
Suzi's right......

And if you want to use Roxio, use the tool for creating a Data Disc.

And you can burn data to a DVD in much the same way you can to a CD, but if you used Roxio's DVD Creator, it was trying to make a DVD you can view on your television, or with a DVD TV type viewer on your PC, like Windows Media Player or Quicktime player. There is a difference!

Don Diego,

So many ways of achieving what you want (or may want).

If you are after just a simple back up of your images/My Documents, I would use an EHD (External Hard Drive). I would consider buying a EHD “shell” and swapping the actual drive, and if needed, store the swapped drive in my safety deposit box for safety.

If I wanted a permanent snapshot, I would back up the drive contents to a DVD, and keep one a month or whatever.

If I wanted to prepare a slideshow for showing off my pictures, I would use a slideshow software such as ProShow Gold and produce a high quality presentation that could be played back on a DVD player.

Each one has a different objective and route to get there.

So, what are you trying to achieve?

Don Diego,

Another perspective.

If I was interested only in backup/security, I would use a Microsoft product available for Windows XP and possibly later, called SYNCTOY.

You can find the Microsoft download here:

Dear Susan,Gene and John:
I have 3 La Cie 500 EHD's and I back to them daily but I was considering making DVD's now that I have a DVD burner for backup also. Since Kim lost her hard drive I have become paranoic.
Thank's for the help amigos.

I think you have it covered.

But, to be 100% safe, one of those backups should be stored off premises in case something happens to the building.

Just a thought...... :)
