I am a little bit skeptical about this color correction method...

Kim, those settings "preferences" represent NOT pure black,white and zone VI which is the grey that best reprent skin tones. In other words they are better "neutral" target colors than what photoshop brings.Therefore this new target colors help you to balance color faster and more efficiently. For example the new target color for white help you find a better white tonality when you don't have a "proper white" to measure.

Another inportant thing is to change your eyedroper measuring parameters by going to the toll box selecting the eyedroper tool and changing it's preferences in Sample point to 3x3 average. That will give you 3 pixel square to measure making it more accurate than just one pixel which is what Point sample is.

Michel, That is the method we are using to find the gray point. Has anyone tried it???

Oh and Don, she had us switch to 3x3.

I have tried it - it is fairly old and has been on the Photoshop Elements Users site as one of the videos as well as featured in several of Scot Kelbys books on colour correction.

The recomendation to shift to a 3x3 pixel sample size is also an old tip form Kelby.

In CS3 you can either shift/click and drag off the sample spot or click on the clear button available when the tool is active -

I would love to see some before and after images if someone gives it a try.

KIMI, all my images are process with those settings I find they are very favorable to my B&W. But every man is a world and what I find good someone else may not. La vida loca I guest

It only shows up when the Color Sampler Tool is selected.

found it John. I only use the eye dropper.
