I've got two things in my CS3 that bug me sometimes that shouldn't happen. Any ideas on how to correct?

1. Any gradient that has transparent in it does not show transparent. In the foreground to transparent it is solid foreground. In any gradient that has other colors in it it shows the adjacent color. Since I don't use transparent too much it doesn't become an issue very often. One time I uploaded the picture in Elements 4 just to use the foreground to transparent gradient and then reopened it in CS3. It worked ok. Might I have to take CS3 out and reenter it? I hope not.

2. About once or twice a week while working on an image, all of a sudden the hand tool (for moving the image) is the only tool operating regardless which tool I select. I have corrected this by shutting down the computer and rebooting. There is no particular pattern that appears to bring this about. It seems to be getting more frequent. I don't like having to reboot. Any ideas, suggestions? :| :| :o
This too shall pass. Is that so? Maybe.

Gail,

I had one irritant with PSE7 that I couldn't get away from except to shut down and restart. I finally went here and asked my Q: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photo ... op_windows

It seems that the Adobe website forum is a lot geekier than what we have here; it is mostly technical Qs. You will have to register as a user (free) to post. Ask your Q - both of them - and i'll bet you get an answer quickly. I did and it was the exact solution I was looking for.

They have two Photoshop forums, one for Mac users and one for Windows. I gave you the link for Windows. If you have a Mac it is:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/photo ... _macintosh

Look at the banner on top and, in the very center is where you click to register.

Thanks, Rusty. I'll do that. :thanks:

I am using CS4 so I am not sure if CS3 is the same.

First, regarding your transparent gradient: When you select the gradient, at the top of the screen in the options bar, there should be several options from which to choose. In CS4, the last one on the right is a check box that says, of all things, Transparency. If this check box is unchecked, you will not see the transparency, so be sure it is checked.

The hand tool can be selected on the fly regardless of which tool you are using by pressing the space bar. It may be that your spacebar is sticking and is on, either mechanically on the keyboard, or electronically in the little microswitch inside the keyboard. Try tapping the spacebar to see if it releases. If this is the problem, and if it happens often, you might want to invest in a new keyboard.

Joe, Thanks. That seems to have done it on both counts. I am sure glad I put this in the beginners portion of this. 90 some percent of the problems I've had in life have had real simple fixes. These sure fit withing that 90+%. Back in my working days I would have gotten the "dumb ass" award. Again thanks :woohoo: :toast:
