I keep getting the install update screen from adobe and it shows that RAW has an update. I go thru the process and it stops saying this:

PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe is running I don't know what that is, where to find it or how to fix this.

I'm running Vista on a PC and all my files are visible (nothing hidden) where do I go, what do I do????

Hi Jen,

I have run into this a couple of times – on Windows XP, but it is the same issue

As soon as you get into the update process, or when it reports a failure, close down Photoshop completely and then select the retry option. Adobe doesn’t say anything, but there is a need not to have anything else running.

If the problem persists, start up the Windows Task Manager – Ctrl+Alt+Delete on XP, check out the processes tab and look for PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe click it, then clisk the End Process button – lower right corner (again based on XP). I just looked at mine, and there are 2 instances of this thing running, so you may have to repeat the process.

If this doesn’t apply to Vista, you need to wait for a Vista geek.

Thanks John, I will see if I can find the install again and try closing the PSEfileagent.exe they way you described. I can't seem to find how to try the update again. I comes up automatically in the moring when I boot the machine but can't find it now. I will give it the college try and let you know what happens. Thanks again. :D

Jen,

I am running XP professional with the same problem. I finally gave up and will wait until Adobe comes out with another version. Most of the recent version updates seem to do nothing but add additional cameras to the list of formats that ACR will process. Since I have not recently changed cameras I guess I am not missing much.

Jen... I get the same thing. I gave up worrying about it also.

All: you can always go back to the old-fashioned - but tried and true - method:

0. Shut down Elements/CS.
1. Download the latest Camera Raw file from the Adobe website to your desktop.
2. Unzip it.
3. Find the folder in which the Camera Raw file resides on your hard drive (clear directions on the Adobe website at download time.
4. Remove the old file; replace it with the new one.
5. Restart Elements/CS.

Thank you Chuck, I will try that because nothing else works. Glad you posted because I never even thought of that. I will let you know after I try to replace the file.
