Today when I opened up CS3 all my actions were gone.
Does anyone know what the reason for this would be?

Good question. I hate when that happens. Mine does that occassionally and it drives me nuts.

No, I have always had to reinstall them all. ARGH!!!!

I use to know how to reset preferences in Elements but have no idea how to do it in CS.

OK, before submitting I did a search to reset preferences in CS3. As soon as you start CS3 immediately hold down the Shift - CTRL - ALT keys. You must do this before the splash screen shows.

That's it!!
then hit yes to the box that pops up.

edit: I had to this about 8 times the first time before I finally hit the correct process and got the box.
if the software opens, you did it wrong and you need to try again.

I made copies of some, but not all. I guess I will have to reinstall what i have.
Thank you for your help Kim & Kimi :)

Hmmmm, if I understand the situation, your actions aren't really gone from your computer, they are just not showing up in CS3 anymore, right? You shouldn't have to re-install in the sense of copying saved files from somewhere else I don't think. I'm guessing you'll be able to get all your actions back, you just have to figure out the trick to do it.

I googled around a bit and found this:

I'm not sure I've been any help...

Linda,

You need to find out if the actions are still with you.

Easiest way is start CS3, get the actions palette going and click on the fly-out menu (circled in red here)

then click on the Load Action menu

CS3 will open up a browser from the last place you loaded actions - and they may be there.

If this doesn't produce results, I would next do a search of your C: drive looking for *.atn files. If you have elements loaded, you will find a bundle of them, but look for ones that are probably not elements atn's.

CS3 allows you to store the actions anywhere and load them into the palette as needed.

Courtney,
That's how I loaded them from elements into CS3. Nothing there.

John,
I tried that yesterday, but the only actions left are the ones that came with photoshop.
I don't know where to look to see if they are still on my HD.
I would really like to know why this happened so I can try to avoid it in the future.

Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.
