Waukesha is the city next door to where I live. It has had a sizable and vibrant Hispanic population since the 1920s. Annually in June I look forward to Fiesta Waukesha held on the banks of the Fox River in a city park. This is a 3-day, low-key festival. Think, "family friendly". If you know anything about the loud, crowded, beer soaked events on the Milwaukee Lakefront ... this ain't that.

After 6:00 PM the "tent events" will feature adults and professional and semi-professional groups performing. I like to go when it opens at noon because the afternoon groups tend to be youth or children groups. Lot more fun to photograph.

I put six pages in my gallery; I hope you enjoy looking as much as I did taking. A few comments:

The fabric arts ladies, as well as the painter, are all members of the Tiriquiz Family of Chichicastenango, Guatemala (let's here you pronounce that quickly). A civic group in Waukesha brought them here so people could see examples of "native" Guatemala arts (they are Mayan). You can see that the artist invited passing kids to join in.

The dancers are local. Groups from Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties performing traditional Mexican folk dances, mostly from Jalisco and Veracruz.

I made sure I shot the vaquero because I'm always criticized for showing my obvious bias for pretty little girls at events such as this. I wish my photo skills could have done justice to his very skillful rope work.

Unfortunately, the gallery is still screwed up, you can't easily scroll through these. Have to look at each one individually ... Oh well.

Rusty, I liked each and every one. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the last one on your 1st post.
Awesome and colorful. My favorite.

I like that one too, Judy. I didn't realize I was capturing the very fancy underwear until I saw it on the PC.

Russ, I'll admit, I'm partial to that one as well.

Thank you both for looking and commenting.

Great series! Looks like a fun time.
Nice photos, Rusty. I love the colors, and can't decide on a favorite.

We lived in Union Grove for 19 years. Wish we had known about this event back then.

Irv
Irv, I missed it last year and would have again this year had I not driven past that park on Thursday and noticed a truck unloading equipment and men erecting the "event tent". I live in Brookfield right next door and always wonder why there is so little publicity.

It's not surprising that Union Grove knows nothing about this small, local event.

I know what you mean ... it's the vibrant colors that draw me to want to shoot this.
