To add to my comment that the weeds will probably survive...
...I have about three spikes like this in the midst of dormant grass:

We also are very hot and dry. We had a 5 minute thunder storm come through last night. I call it an Idaho storm. 5 acres of dirt and 5 drops of rain. Just enough to muddy the windshield on the car. LOL!! But, have you ever noticed that when we have the extreme heat in the summer, the next winter usually has extreme cold. Not saying we will get the moisture we need, but I'd bet it is COLD...Brrrrrrrr.
