This weekend, I found an old copy of The White House Cookbook at the used bookstore! Some of the pages are torn, but it's in pretty decent condition overall. It contains photos first ladies and rooms in The White House as well. Some of the more interesting recipes are for squirrel soup and roasted pigeon. Perhaps I will make an Election Cake for Election Day!

It was last copyrighted in 1897, but I'm not sure when this book was printed. There was a note on a slip of paper in the back dated 1902, but I couldn't read the handwriting.

You can also find it on Project Gutenberg - www.gutenberg.org/files/13923/13923-h/13923-h.htm
What a fantastic find, Amy !! I'm envious. Sounds like a real treasure :toast:
btw: Rusty might be able to provide some of the ingredients for the Squirrel soup :bigwink:
Thanks for sharing your great news.

That is a nice find.

Just as you know the expression, "Don't Mess With Texas", that holds true for my little fuzzy backyard friends as well. I will admit, thanks to my largess, they are all pretty darned plump.
