I go this link in a German Photoshop newsletter I subscribe to. I haven't tried it yet, but maybe someone else would like to try it out as well.

CleanSkinFX is the most powerful automatic retouch for portraits. It smooths the skin of the object while preserving all the details and crispness of hair, eyes or background. This procedure was exclusively developed by mediachance.com.

Has anyone tried this yet.
I just tried it on a difficult shot of my mother (aged 86 years, with lots of skin problems). I chose the standalone version. It's automatic and you have only two settings to chose from: double fix and red. With a new machine and Vista, it's very quick and the result is satisfactory. Since it is a standalone version (free), I would recommend opening the initial file and the corrected one to put on another layer. With some masking and layer opacity variations you should achieve satisfactory results with flexibility.
I'll try to add links to examples in my site... as soon as I can reinstall and test ftp transfer.

Try the following links:

The original was already processed, but you can see the effect of this program. The softening effects also 'blurs' details, so masking would be required.

From the number of views of this thread, I can conclude this topic is very interesting to many... We all have to retouch a difficult portrait some day. There are many tutorials, techniques and softwares to deal with this. What are your favorites?
