Make a Frame

I promised this to Bernell a few days ago and I am just getting something down now. (sorry)

Open your image
Ctrl J to make a copy, this layer needs to be highlighted
Image, resize, canvas size (make sure relative is checked)
try 1 inch in each box. I used a web size and that worked fine. You may need to go bigger or smaller depending on your image. Ctrl Z to undo if you don't like it and try again.

your top layer should still be highlighted
Hold the Ctrl key down while you hit the add a new layer icon. This will add your new layer below it.
hit "D" to set your default colors to black and white
black should now be on top in your color picker. Alt, backspace will fill your blank layer with black

Highlight your image copy once more and Ctrl J to make another copy.
Highlight the lower copy. Ctrl click on the image thumbnail to get the marching ants
hit "X" to reverse your default colors. now white should be on top. Alt, backspace to fill with white.
you will see no difference. stay on that layer
go to blur, gaussian blur. now blur until you like the results.

Done.

Here is a screen shot for you. It is only 4 layers. :D

Kimi, great instructions. Thanks so for posting it. I always forget that I can expand the canvas to add a frame. Silly me always covering part of my photo.

Woke up thinking this is a version of Wendy's tut for making a photo pop from it's background.

Reverse the colors. I needed to give credit where the info had come from. :)

Thanks for the tut Kimi.

Here is my first attempt at a frame, however, I changed the frame color from black to blue to match the plate. I think it came out okay. Always appropriate to frame pictures of your Thanksgiving turkeys...right?

Two turkeys because there were 21 eaters and the turkeys are cooked on the BBQ. Turkeys too big take too long to cook on the grill apparently. Also, this way there are sufficient leftovers.

Why not take a picture of them?

I probably have stranger photos than 2 turkeys. :P

They look delicious.
