I have always kept fonts from different sources (bundled with software, font packages...) on my computer, so that I found more 700 on my computer... On the other hand, I rarely use more than a dozen. I would like to select and organize them in categories. I had once a nice shareware to do this, but I have lost track...

It's "Font Management" you need and there are lots of programs online that you can get - very few of them are free. One of the best, I hear, is "Printers Apprentice" http://www.loseyourmind.com/.
