Old Elements versions

Over the years I have aquired Photoshop Elements Versions 1,2,3,4,5.
I have a friend who cannot afford to purchase one and she is a elderly widow. I would like to help her and give her one of my older versions to play with on her computer.
What is the rule about giving these away? Can I give her an older version? I used them each time to upgrade. However, I now use Photoshop CS5. Having had CS3 and 4 before that.
It is a shame they sit on my shelf and she could be using one.

I can see no reason why you can't give her a copy if you wish. Many people sell used programs (licenses) they purchase when they upgrade.

You bought it, you can do whatever you wish with it.
I would recommend giving her nothing older than PSE3. I have owned 1-3-5-7 (I'm an odd guy and probably due to buy #9) and remember a lot about #1 that's difficult for a first user to master; #3 was a lot easier.

Nice to see you back here, Sheila.
