Howdy amigos:
I need a scanner and I'am debating between the Nikon and the Microteck both of them can do 2-1/4" negatives and slides. The Nikon is Negative and slides only and the Microtech can do from 35mm to 4x5 neg and slides on the lower drawer. Any suggestions, reviews etc. will be appreciated. Thank you.
Shalom,
Don

I wish I could help you, my friend, but I know nothing about scanners. Will look for some reviews for you.

Don,

Just in case you decide to look at Epson, be sure to check out the "Epson Store" (linked from the main Epson website). They have a section for factory reconditioned items. I bought the Epson "4990" a year and a half ago (negatives, slides, prints) and bought a reconditioned scanner. Comes with the full Epson Warranty just as if it had been purchased new. Right out of the box it sure looked like a brand new item to me. All the stuff that comes with it was even in little sealed plastic bags. I saved over a hundred dollars off the "new price". (added bonus, the "stuff" included a CD containing Elements 2.0 :woohoo: )

The only problem is, you never know what may happen to be available as "reconditioned" at any one time. I was lucky, they just happened to have exactly what I had decided to buy.

If you do look at Epson, the only real complaint I have with mine is that the holder for 35mm negative strips is pretty crappy and difficult to use. However, in my research deciding what I wanted, that seemed to be a common gripe about most of them.

Diego,I would agree with Rusty about The Epson Store. You might want to check out the the Epson Epson Perfection V700 PHOTO scanner. Very Nice!! There are a number different models of "V" Perfection Scanners available.
I have brought several scanners from the Epson CLearance Store and been most pleased with product received.

Good luck in finding a new scanner.

I've also been happy with my Epson. Mine is also a flatbed beside neg/slides. It has templates to hold negatives flat on the bed, so haven't had the issue Rusty mentions. I've also used it to scan small items for scrapping.
Thank you amigos.
Rusty I have read that your scanners perform very well. I'm trying to find a scanner that will give me a good 11x14 from a 35mm slide or negative and a fantastic 16x20 from 2-1/4 format. I relly like the Nikon but it is $2,500. by the time it gets home. The microtex M-1 is good but slow and the tech support is very poor. I may have to sell some of my cameras or lighting equipment to get the Nikon then wight 2 months to get it home for I understand that they are hard to find. Will see.
