Photoshop Creative

I bought some presets, opened a jpeg in camera raw, applied presets & now I wanted to open the picture in CS3 & apply a layer mask. Once i brought it in CS3, duplicated the bkgr. & apply the layer mask nothing changed. Is there a way to use a layer mask to remove some of the preset?

I think you need to put the raw edited image over the original then apply the mask. I am assuming that you want to keep some of the original. Hope I am making sense to you. If not, say so and I will try to explain better.
