Equipment question

I wonder what the "thing" is on the top of the camera of the photographer in the water? My first thought was a mic for a video camera but, when I looked closer it sure appeared to be a DSLR to me.

No big deal. Just, "inquiring minds..."

Sure looks like a microphone to me. You know, the new high-end DSLR's have HDMI video capabilities, thus the mike.

Hmn,

I am guessing a professional quality HD video camera, with attached mike. In both shots I am assuming he is shooting and looking thru an upper level viewfinder. It looks like a long camera body and a rectangular lens hood?

Anyway, my guess is video camera, not DSLR.

You are both probably right. I guess the long lens was fooling me into thinking it was a SLR w/telephoto attached. As I look at it closer, after your comments, it clearly appears that he not looking where the viewfinder on a dSLR would be placed.

I'm now guessing he was shooting for one of the TV stations.

You know the line between still and video is blurred more each day with each new digicam announced.
