Now I'm lost, Chuck or Gene please give me a step by step on this one.
"I would recommend backing up the catalog and a copy of your user preset folders somewhere on your hard drive (internal or external) just in case."
How to backup catalog?
How to backup a copy of preset folders?

My little mind or what ever is left of it is blank :help:

Don

You think your mind is blank? Try working the night shift.....

Anyway...in LR if you haven't already, you can set it to automatically back up your catalog. Go to Edit -> Preferences, and on the General tab click the Catalog Settings button at the bottom. In the General tab of the window that opens you can set LR to backup your catalog automatically, and where you want it to backup to. I put it to one of my EHD's.

To back up your catalog and presets, you can find them in the following folders:
Catalog and Database: in your My Documents\My Pictures\Lightroom folder
Presets: C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User>\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom

And under the Lightroom folder for the Presets string here you'll find all sorts of LR related data you just might want to copy somewhere safe. Taking my LR back to 1.3.1 went very well and I didn't lose anything, but its always better to be safe than sorry later on.

Trust me, I'm no angel! You would only need to sit with me one night at work when I have a difficult customer on the phone. Thank goodness for mute buttons that work!

To me you are amigo, when ever I'm in a jam you come to my rescue :toast: :toast:
BTW,I use my spot meter by habit and always when I'm taking pictures that are going to be converted to B+W. I want to know my hightlights are in proper relation to my shadows so the transition is smooth, then i can manipulate the image better.

I was just starting getting used to LightRoom and decided to uninstall and reinstall without backup.

In my case, the uninstall touched nothing of the "User" files in Documents and Settings so it was a quick restore. Didnt even have to re-enter my serial number on the reinstall.

One thing is that I have set up LightRoom to NOT check for updates anymore. Will do the same thing for Photoshop CS3 later today.

Don, sorry I haven't been around today - working way too hard! Glad Gene took care of your needs! :woohoo:

Hi Chuck:
Thank you yes Gene did help me but now I'n stock with CS3. Since this is a new computer and I have not install any pictures on it yet I deleted the CS3 program when I re install it I went to File. Open Selected Camera_Raw_4_4 {1} right clicked and delete it. then whent to Adobe and downloaded 4.3.1. I now try to see if it is there so I went back to File > Open > and saw Camera Raw 4.3.1 but when I click on it a window open telling me that "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of file" I clicked OK.

Now on Windows Explorer i have 2 windows open one with the zipfile and the other with the unzip file folder icon Camera raw4_3_1_{1} What i'm doing wrong??? :help: :help: :help:

Don, if you follow the instructions on the bottom of the page at this address:

you should be able to make it work. Please let us know if you are successful!

Chuck, I sent you a PM amigo. thank you for your kindness.

I have been pulling my hair all day with this Adobe situation. So I find out a few things I did't know so I want to share with you and the others so that somebody else will benefit. This only need to be done if you are using Vista.

I just learned from Adobe that in order for you to download a plug-in you have to do the following:
Disable Protected Mode in Internet Explorer, then re-download the installer file.

1- In Internet explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options
2- Click on the Security tab.
3-Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode option.
4-Click OK.
5-Close and restart Internet Explorer
6- Log in to the Adobe Store and re-download the installer file.
Warning:
Protected mode can protect your computer from malicious software. You should turn it on again after you have completely downloaded your Adobe product.
Another solution:
Download the installer file using a different browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Navigator.
Hope this help some one in my same shoes.
Shalom,
Don
