Here's the link for the .dng files: http://www.4shared.com/dir/11136971/74a ... 17-08.html. It is a private folder.......password is lonesome whistle.

Remember the rules of engagement: All work must be done in either ACR or LR except for cropping, sharpening and using your noise filter. You can make some MINOR changes in PSE/CS3 if you want. If you use a preset, please list the name and a link to the source if you have that information. Also, if you'd like, please describe your workflow. And, as Gene implied recently, no one is going to police the process Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!!!!!

John graciously agreed to post one this week (I didn't see his note until I had this ready). If he posts, too, consider it extra fun or something for next week. :-)

ACR to deal with extreme contrast, then some further editing in Elements with masks to darken highlights, USM for local contrast in shadows and some vignetting.

Michel - you did a good job on a poor picture. It looks much better.

On the contrary, this is an excellent candidate to demonstrate the huge advantage of shooting raw and editing in ACR. The challenge is to restore the feeling of the scene. Here, this exposure and ACR let you recover all details from highlight to shadows, that is the equivalent of a good negative. Then you have to go further in LR or the full version of ACR. With Elements it is necessary to use layers, masks and other local adjustments.

All edits and B&W conversion in ACR basic tab. I am really fond of the B&W conversion abilities of ACR. Sometimes you need some additional dodge and burn in Elements, but most of the time, ACR gets you very near with much less risk of posterization. I can imagine a rich black and white print from this picture; I have no idea what to do in color...

I love that, Michel. Thank goodness for RAW.......I'm pretty sure I went out that day with my camera set on tungsten and forgot to change it.

Sunny,
By the way, the exif says this shot was taken at 1/1250th and f:3.2 with the fix focal 50mm. Personally, I would have liked more depth of field, especially in the foreground. The main subject is tack sharp which should ensure a splendid enlargement.

I'm pretty sure that's the only lens I took that day, Michel......it was for my 12 of 12. I tend to gravitate to that lens over my zooms.
