Maybe the last challenge before the new 'Fix my picture...' one!

What can be done to enhance the gold of the statue?

Thanks for playing, John and Anita!
John, your rendition is very dramatic and you succeeded in extracting some depth in the very dull sky.
I think Anita's color rendition is very close: today is also very cloudy and I had a look at the statue, the gold hue is rather yellow without the orange tendency we tend to see with a blue sky.
By the way, there is some chromatic aberration or purple fringing in the background branches: apart from a selective desaturation, what would you do to correct this?

Michel,

I have looked at a really close zoom - the fringing is there, but is slight (I think).

The full version of ACR and Lr have a Chromatic Aberration setting here:

I tried these settings and got this - your image with only the C/A settings applied.

Let me know if it looks like it is cleared up.

Yes, John, I see the difference clearly. I do admit the defect is not very obvious and may be enhanced by the fact the tiny branches are colored and slightly out of focus. I tried a plugin call chromacute which was not efficient in this case. Ptlens can also take care of distinct CA. I have found that CA is a lens defect which is more easily seen in high res files (Canon 50D for instance) with wide amplitude zooms...

I just used a preset called aged something and then messed around with some of the sliders.
