Is there an easy way to put a drop shadow effect on objects and text?

Julie, you can apply styles to text layers; just like any other layer.

Okay great ... that works easy!

What about anti-aliasing text? When I try using the lasso tool and selecting the text and checking the anti-aliasing box it doesn't change anything. Is there a way to do it to text?

Sometimes I copy the layer (cntl-J) and the lower of the two layers I fill the lettering with a color I want as a shadow (black most of the time). Then I do cntl-T and move the lower layer a little bit (usually a couple of pixels to the right and a couple of pixels down). This approach gives you a bit more control and color choice for a shadow. Hope this helps.
This too shall pass. Is that so? Maybe.

Julie another trick with the text is if you are sure you are not going to edit the text again, simplify the layer and you can work with it like a regular layer.
