Frames (from Scott Kelby book The Photoshop Elements 5 book for digital photographers).
I made a few little changes but ... anyway.
a. add a new layer (at the top) DO NOT FILL yet.
b. go to
Image
-> Resize
-> Canvas Size
Width 1 inches
Height 1 inches
Canvas extention color: White
c. click on the Color Picker
-> click somewhere in you picture to pick up a color and click ok
-> alt backspace to fill the new layer
-> lower the Opacity until you are able to see your picture
d. select the Rectangular Marquee Tool
-> click one corner and drag to the other corner.
example: click on the top left corner and drag to the lower right corner
-> DO NOT DESELECT yet
-> Select
-> Modify
-> Contract
Set the Contract By 20 - 30 pixels (this really depends on you)
-> Special Styles
-> Layer Styles
-> Drop Shadows
-> Soft Edges (your choice)
-> Apply (this should change the Opacity back to 100%)
-> press Backspace to 'cut out the center'.
e. Repeat 'a' and 'b'
-> on 'b' change the Width to 3 and Height to 3 color stays White.
Repeat 'c' and 'd'
Note: If you want to add texture to your layers, click on the layer, filter, texture, texturizer and pick your choice.
Repeat for the next layer.
