When you save your work for the first time the save as box comes up. That is fine, but when you reopen it again to work on it some more and then click just the save button, why does the save as box still come up and I have to rename it something else? I could wind up with several copies of this work instead of just the one. Is this deliberate so that you can go back at certain stages of your work incase you want to change something?
The general, accepted wisdom, is to always work on a copy, not the original, file. That being said, once you have started working on a photo, the choice is yours. I think that is just a reminder so that you would at least stop and think about what you're doing so you don't overwrite something you may not want to. As long as you don't flatten the image and your history remains intact, you should be able to back up in the editing process if you find yourself going in a direction you may not want to.
