another question about merging photos

I am trying to take one person from a photo and place her in another. The hair selectiom is what is getting me. She is next to a solid background. Can I somehow remove the background color and have a better selection of her hair? If someone knows, could you please give me instructions as I am new to this, Thanks!

Ah, it really depends....is some of the background showing between strands of hair?....is there some of the background color in the person?
You can use a selection tool. I'd likely try the magic wand with contiguous checked if the background doesn't show in the hair. Uncheck contiguous if it does. (Then delete.) If some of the person-clothes, etc.- get deleted you could mask that back in.
