What's your favorite action or effect that you've downloaded from the internet (whether free or bought) that you use in PSE6?
PSH Defog from http://www.photographyschoolhouse.com/p ... =PSH+Defog.

Welcome!
As far as actions or effects, I'll distinguish actions (effects are actions) and plug-ins (more integrated with Elements)
- actions: I think the most used is adding masks to layers. I have tested successfully those by Grant, Grafi and Hiddenelements. I often use one the hiddenelements tools which provide very quick ways to build a setup for channels, B&W conversion, color adjustments or selections. I can play with the numerous tools by Grafi, but I prefer experimenting and 'doing it myself'. One of his late action was how to create B&W CS3 adjustment layers in PSE6 Windows!

- plug-ins: I often use Ptlens for lens distortion correction and Neat Image for noise reduction. I strongly recommend the free smartcurves plug-in if you are interested in curves.

It's a great little action, isn't it? I try to remember to use it before I do anything else (except make a copy of my background layer, of course).

Hi all,

I like some of Grants Tools, mainly Action Channels and Action Curves.

Focus Magic is also an excellent plug-in though you have to purchase it.

I also have a number that have already been listed as well as a couple of my own.
I like to PWL (Paint with Light) and have set up the first two layers (Paint Shadows & Paint Light) as an action to save time.

I use B&W Lab & Handy Actions more than anything else. Of those, the gallery frame & outline actions in B&W, and Layer Mask, Curves & Channels in the Handy pack. Also, my Add-O-Matic.

I'm getting them all ready for PSE7!
One good way to know which actions are important for you is to work on another computer without any action added... That is my case now. The old hard disk died... I had to buy a new unit with Vista and reinstall PSE. Luckily I had saved data and software installation files on an external hard disk.
I can tell you I was very frustrated not to have layer masks. Of course, I know how to hijack the mask of an adjustment layer, but that is tiresome. So, I had a look at my external harddisk, and decided that the easiest and more efficient step was first to reinstall the 100 hiddenelements tools for PSE4 (which have always worked for me in PSE5 and PSE6...) No big problem, since I had saved the atn, png and xml files to keep the actions in their own categories. I just searched this forum for a link to Richard Lynch's installing instructions for Vista. Once those files copied in the right Vista directories, I started PSE6 without deleting any cache files. As I expected, there were signs of background activity, so I waited for 5 or 6 minutes. When I opened the effect palette, everything was there in its own category!
Now, depending on what I can find on my external hard disk, I can reinstall Graffi's effects and my beloved plug-ins, Neat Image and Ptlens (the equivalents in PSE6 are not bad) as well as smartcurves.

OK, I have to say my own! I love my CoffeeShop Vivid color pop action because it has several different color pop options and each one is totally adjustable, so I have choices for each of my photos. I also love my PowderRoom and Vignette action. Well, I actually love all of my actions! And I am going to be adding more in the next weeks.

Oh, all of my PSE actions are free if you want to download them, just check out http://www.coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/ and look on the sidebar menu to find actions that run in PSE.
