Canon has released a firmware update for the Canon 40D.

I nervously followed the directions and (Hooray!) it worked.

Anita
I came across a report of an interesting problem with this upgrade. I can't verify that it's true but I caution anyone who's considering the ipgrade to check.

Apparently version 1.0.5 has changed the RAW file format and the current release of ACR will not recognise the images anymore.

Also it's reported you can't revert to the previous version.

Colin, that would seem to be inadvertent. Considering that ACR 4.3 and Lightroom 1.3 were just issued, I'd guess it will be many weeks before another version of those are updated again. Sounds like Canon may need to issue another firmware update to correct the first one! (Not unprecedented - I seem to recall something like that with the 10D)

I have bookmark it to read, thanks Anita. I don't know much about this RAW thing but I'm learning thanks to y'all. What does this update do?

I'm sure Canon won't have this issue long so I will sit back and wait on a correction. Oh, er.......not that I have a 40D or anything like that.........um, eeekkk :o

Jen, have you started looking at the Canon 40D/30D/20D/10D discussion forum on dpreview.com? The folks who hang out there seem to have all the latest skinny on what's going on. I didn't see any posts about the firmware update and ACR, so maybe it's not a general problem. Will continue to watch.... :)

Thanks for the update news Anita. I too have bookmarked it and will wait for the RAW bugs to be fixed.

Jen, if you ever get the 40D I would love to see your images with it. ;) ;)

Chuck, thanks for that site too.

I know, just playing........... I"m a bad bad girl.........well maybe so but at least I'm having fun. It will be more fun soon.

Chuck, thanks for reminding me I forgot all about checking that site. I have seen some good and bad comments on the upgrade. I don't know which way to go. If I upgrade will I notice a difference since I have not had it out but a time or two? Decisions, Decisions.

Jen, I would wait. None of the items that are on the list of fixes for that patch are of particular relevance to you....unless, of course, you're using the menus in Korean....
