I fogot how to..........

I feel like a complete dummy but I have forgotten how to do these two things:
Put a drop shadow on its own layer
Put a stroke on its own layer.
Can someone refresh my failing memory, please!!!

Hi, partner!
In CS3, make your drop shadow on the layer you want, then right click on the place it says "Drop Shadow " on layer in the palette and choose "Create Layer". To stroke, CTRL-click the thumbnail, add a new layer above that layer and then Edit>stroke. Is that understandable?
