Hello Don!
Yes, I have the hiddenelements 4 and layers book. Here is a post I sent yesterday on Richard's support site at retouchpro:
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/hidden ... 5-0-a.htmlI did learn a lot from his books. They are pedagogic tools which give you a good understanding of photo editing and workflow. For instance he stresses that there is a plethora of tools and ways to achieve certains results, and he believes that by combining a few carefully selected tools you understand well, you can do almost everything. That calls for attention and patience from the reader. For Elements reader, whatever version, the book for Elements 4 is highly recommended. For CS readers wanting to start on solid bases, the layer book is a nicely presented method, very pedagogic book. (I have not read it entirely).
Master idea about layers: keep track of all your workflow and be able to change whatever edit at any time. Of course, the power of layers which can replace many edits like curves is well explained.
You could have a look at his blog to understand his choices and philosophy.
