I want to add snow to a picture

I have a photo of two little girls outside in their snowsuits. There is snow on the ground, but none on the evergreen tree behind them. Is there a technique I can use to add some snow (just a little - for effect) to the tree so it can be used as a Christmas card? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Maybe move the girls and the snow to another background....maybe one that has snow covered trees. I would think that is the best option without seeing your photo.

Why don't you post the picture and maybe some great minds on here can come up with a solution.

Thanks Jen - moving them to a different photo is what I was thinking. Here is the picture - any other ideas?

Cute picture! I think a new background might be the easiest solution - or maybe you could clone some in from another photo?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I ended up inserting a different background and here is the final product!

I just read this for the first time. You did a great job adding a new background!

If you still want to experiment with snow, awhile back I asked on the PET forum about adding snow; Wendy replied with the following:

Experiment with this:

Get the magic wand and click on a few areas of your image ... you are aiming to get the sort of selection I have in the top image.

Then create a new layer. Layer>New>Layer
and fill the selection with white... (you may need to blur it just a little).

You can then duplicate the snow layer and move it around your image ... erase parts that you don't need and build up snow in areas you want more ..

Charles, the technique you demonstrated is exactly what I was looking for when I first posted this question. While I am really happy with my "blended snowy background photo", I am going to save this information for next time. Thanks so much for this info.
