color changes

Working on a project, I have several layers of images with different blend modes. When I merge these layers the color changes, by this I mean the effect gets lighter. How can I stop this from happening?

Suzi I have had this problem before, did you try merge visable?

yes, that is what I was doing, I think. Ok, now not sure..good thing I saved it. Will go back and see if merge visible helps. Thanks for help
