I have always wanted the opportunity to photograph downtown lights of a big city. Thought I would finally have the chance in Calgary. Well, guess what -- they don't leave the building lights on at night! I guess they are being environmentally responsible.
These were taken at twilight and, even if I had waited for dark, I don't think I would have had the contrast I was after because so many of the darned lights were not on. I was shooting in Raw; Before is as shot with no adjustments in ACR:
I thought I might be able to do something with Anita's Paint Technique. The first effort wasn't so hot but I remembered her comments about working with small-size files. I resized and resampled the image and got what I thought was an interesting image...
I'm still determined to get some city lights. Maybe I'll have to drive to Chicago.
