I have found that if I follow the teachers basics, I end up with a very cool image using the info palette. I think at that point it goes back to personal taste and what the photographer did see with his/her eyes. I have been using levels and then changing the levels adjustment to luminosity so I don't get the color shift. I will try your 50% gray layer and see what that does. Thanks so much for your input.
