Jane - I really like what you have done with your son's photo. I think the suggestions from Gene and Rusty made a great difference in how the "cutout" looks. I am going to have to find this thread when I return from our trip to California. I am planning to take lots of photos at the Rose Bowl and imagine these techniques will come in very handy.

You sure have a handsome family - I saw the other photos in the thread with the sketch challenge.

You did an excellent job the 2nd time around! I have tried selecting people out of a photo and found it is not easy to do. The edges look rough and not smooth at all when I have tried it. Rusty and Gene's suggestions look like real winners!

Jane, that is a WOW difference. Gene and Rusty both of those tips would be great for the newsletter or to put in members tutorials (hint, hint)

Thanks! One of the things I did on my own was to duplicate the layer and give it a serious blur. Then I used a soft brush to erase away the parts I wanted to be sharp - which was most of Ari. By using a soft eraser brush and getting right up but not quite to the edge (about 1-2 pixels) I got a better blending and created a hint of perspective.

The second effort looks much better! Glad to be of some help.
