Kim asked me what differences I had with CS3 [compared to the instructions].

After selecting my gradient tool and making the selection. I totally lost my picture. What I needed to do was to make a copy [control J] and then use the gradient tool on the copy. Other than that, everything worked perfectly.

You all probably already knew that a copy was required [now I do too].
Russ, step 2 was to create a new blank layer to put the gradient on.

Russ... no copy required.
You can make your gradient on a blank layer, that way you can move it around where you want it. :P

I worked mine in CS also.
