Angela, whenever they started making this style of nutcracker, I suppose they could be used on real nuts. The ones I have seen in the stores around here seem to be strictly decorative and, the construction is such, anything other than a rather puny nut would probably break it.

We started buying these over 20 years ago; one or two each Christmas season. We have a box full of smaller ones that we don't even open any longer when we start the decorating push. We haven't bought a new one in several years ... enough is enough. However, every now and then we might spot one that just can't be resisted:

To put this into perspective for a UK friend that probably has no idea what this is all about ..... think of a nutcracker featuring one of your favorite stars with Man-U, Man-City or Arsenal.

Irv very nice December photos especially your red and white beauty.
Great group of seven, Irv.
I agree about the 'red and white cutie'.

The beauty/cutie is grandchild number 6 of 7. She's 3 1/2 and knows how to use every ounce of all that cute. :)
Thanks for the great photos, Angela, Tennie, Rusty, and Irv! Love looking at them!

Well, I can not claim to have used the photo themes as inspiration to get me shooting. However, I am going through my photos to see what I've shot that just happen to fit the theme. No promise of good quality.

Once again I made some ice votives for Christmas.

It is very hard to see the flames because they were small, but believe me when I tell you we were all as close to the fire as possible because it was darn cold for the skating party.
