I'm just so excited that I actually did a 27 minute slide show in PE4 for my mother-in-law this Christmas in one day. She happened to notice a missing photo album......so I had to let her know I was the thief......she forgave me. A used all different transitions, some I like and a few were strange. Not sure which one's yet I will make a note of those and post back.

I had a hard time with adding music. I wanted some songs extended and some shortened and the transitions of those is rather harsh at times but this being the first one, it was really good. There really isn't a good book on this one for PE4, I'm using the one Premier Elements 2 in a snap. I didn't reference it much because of the time frame I had to complete it.

Hope that there is a better way to put songs in and have them the length you want without cutting the song off in mid word. Anyone know a good tut or this???

Hi Jen,
Congratulations on completing your first project :D
They get easier with every one you do.

There are two Audio Transitions, Constant Power and Constant Gain, both do pretty much the same thing.
If you place the audio transition between clips you can stretch it out so the audio will fade gently from one to the next.

I highly recommend taking a look at the book, many questions will be answered there and it is still the best book around for learning Premiere Elements (any version). If you have any other questions I would be more than happy to help :)

Be sure to check out the free version 4 tour and all of the free version 3 tour tutorials, there is lots of good stuff in there that will help you http://muvipix.com/products.php?page=2& ... bcat_id=10 pages 2 and 3. Also the Rolling Titles tutorials will be a good learning experience.

There are also some great tutorials at http://www.freewebs.com/pe3help/

Great Chuck, that is exactly the info that I needed to know for the audio clips....thanks a bunch. I will go check out those TUTs and hope to learn something in the process. I do know that 2gb of ram is not enought and I had been locked up several times so 2 more gb or ram will be ordered soon......I have to recover from Christmas first. Do you have any problems with memory?

2GB of RAM should be plenty under normal conditions.
One thing to remember is that video resolution is 720 x 480, that's all. Using images in slideshows that are over 1000 x 750 (like 8 megapixel) is overkill and will work the system too hard. Premiere Elements does not like over size images at all. Resize all your images to 1000 x 750 (or close) and you will find that the slowness or lockups should go away.

Here is an FAQ from the Adobe U2U forum on Images size in Premiere Elements
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bb8822c this is a version 1 FAQ but it still applies to all versions.

I didn't know that either. I have printed that info an will start to resized the larger images. I noticed my system bogging down a great deal. I even checked and it said 98% at one time so I knew that was the issue with my lock ups. I turned off aero and had less issues but still believe that I need more ram. I even used a flash drive for extra memory and never saw that being used or recognized as extra memory. (that is a ready boost for windows flash drive).

I hope the system will fly if I increase it to 4gb for ram.

Hi Jen,
Honestly, the RAM isn't going to make a lot of difference.
When working with video especially, the processor has the most to do with speed.

Most systems (other than 64 bit or Vista) will not even use 4gb of RAM efficiently anyway.
And if you are using Windows XP (32 bit like most people) it doesn't even recognize all 4GB, you end up with about 3.5 useable GB of RAM.

Without knowing all of your system specs it is hard for me to recommend anything that would help.
Stopping all background processes, screen saver, anti virus, things like that will help. If you are running Vista there are other tips to help performance, but extra RAM doesn't really do much when you get over 2GB.

Ok, then looks like I should save the money.

Here is my system:
Dell dimension C521, Athon 64 x2 4600+ (2GHz, 512Kx2)
2gb DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
80gb SATA II Hard drive (not enough, will increase later) I have 2 EHD one at 320 the other 500
Vista 32 Home Premium

I think that is all you need to know. Please let me know what to turn off or help with memory.

That is a nice system but the hard drive is a definite problem.
If the application has to keep going to the external drives for data that can slow things down, especially if you are working with large images. 2 large internal disk drives would be a much bigger help then more RAM. If that system can take 2 drives you can at least add an additional 160 or 320 gb drive as a second internal drive and it will help a lot. Then you can store all of your project material on an internal drive and save everything else on your external drives.

As far as optimizing Vista, here is an article by Steve Grisetti at the Adobe forum

Unfortunatly it's only able to hold one drive. It's a skinny system so maybe my solution would be to have it cloned onto a larger hard drive......do you think that is a better alternative for me?

That would be your best option as far as I can tell. You might want to post your question in the Computer Issues forum at muvipix, there are lots of people with more knowledge than be in this area ;)
